| Assassination
is the act of any one man - any one man can assassinate a leader. But
only the people can make a revolution. And the day has come when the real
revolution will begin - the revolution in the economy, the revolution
in the society, the revolution to bring us back to a level where we can
hold our heads up high. And it is that day that we need the participation
of people.... There are many who believe that a revolution is about blood.
It is true that at times in a revolution blood flows. Very often innocent
blood, very often the blood of the best amongst us. But one must be prepared
to take a stand against evil and injustice in the society. Walter Rodney |
Welcome to the Official Web Page of The Working People's Alliance (WPA), the party of Walter Rodney. The WPA, despite harassment, imprisonment, assassination, and massive electoral defeat, remains the political conscience of Guyana. Most parties faced with such experiences would have faded from the scene long ago. But the WPA's ability to survive is testimony to the fact that it is more than a political machine; it represents an idea, a righteous cause, and a movement for the true liberation of Guyana.
For
the last 25 years the WPA has served as the chief motivator of mass rebellion
against dictatorship, a consistent voice against corruption, mediator between
the two warring factions, and uncompromising crusader for the multiracial
flowering of Guyana.
In the process it has made mistakes. But in the final
analysis the party has remained true to its initial calling-the creation of
a Guyana based on justice for all regardless of race or class, and in which
the working class will find its rightful place alongside other sections of
the society.
As Guyana fights for its survival, the WPA is more relevant than ever. Guided primarily by the principles of Walter Rodney and other Caribbean patriots, the WPA will continue to give leadership and inspiration to those who desire a new peaceful and stable Guyana. Despite attacks from all sides and regular requiems from some, the WPA lives.
